Working as a team is only possible when three voices harmonize. These three voices are that of the designer (informed by their personal experience and background); that of the collaborators who use their practical knowledge to form, define, and execute ideas; and that of the client who entrusts themselves to the process and invests themselves in it. After all, the client will ultimately own the final design product and must connect with the space they carefully created to represent them.
Ultimately, the entire process is irrelevant and superfluous if that connection isn’t established. Interior design has no greater purpose than to help enrich the space that necessitates it, improving the atmosphere and our experience of it. When design reflects this purpose, it creates a stage upon which the primary actors are people.

Understanding a space’s background and that of ourselves and others is essential because it allows us to connect with the identities that inhabit the space. It allows us to give ourselves fully to the design process. Objects manifest a very intimate facet of our personalities; our spaces are like a second skin—just like clothing. A space should have good rhythm and composition, pieces that reflect who we are, and simple objects that support our daily life. Beloved pieces should be able to express themselves in our spaces. It’s a symphony, in which sounds make sense thanks to the silences.
